Grow:  According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of paralegals and legal assistants is projected to grow 8 percent from 2014 to 2024. Being a part of the APA connects you to this growing group of professionals!

LEVELS OF MEMBERSHIP:

Voting Membership ($75.00 per year):
  • Open to any Arizona resident who is actively employed in the State of Arizona in the capacity of a paralegal and who meets at least one of the requirements below:

      • Graduation from an ABA-approved program of study for paralegals.
      • Graduation from a course of study for paralegals which is institutionally accredited, but not ABA-approved, and which requires not less than the equivalent of 60 semester hours of classroom study.
      • Graduation from a course of study for paralegals other than those set forth in 1 and 2 above, plus not less than six (6) months of in-house training as a paralegal.
      • Receipt of a baccalaureate degree in any field, plus not less than six (6) months of in-house training as a paralegal.
      • A minimum of three (3) years of law related experience under the supervision of an attorney, including at least six (6) months of in-house training as a paralegal.
      • Successful completion of the NALA Certified Paralegal (“CP") examination.
      • A minimum of two (2) years of in-house training as a paralegal.
      • Good standing as a member of NALA.
Non Voting Membership ($65.00 per year):
  • Open to paralegals who are:
      • a graduate of a paralegal training program but not yet employed as a paralegal; or
      • has been employed as a paralegal in the past but is not currently employed in that capacity; or
      • is employed as a paralegal outside of the State of Arizona.

Student Membership ($25.00 per year):

  • Open to students enrolled in a formal training program for paralegals, either in the State of Arizona or outside the State of Arizona.  (Student membership status limited to 1 year.)

Associate Membership ($100.00 per year):

  • Other persons or entities are eligible to be associate members of the APA if they are:
      • Members of bar associations;
      • Involved in an educational field which endorses the paralegal concept;
      • Involved in the promotion of the paralegal profession;
      • Educational entities which have established a paralegal curriculum; or
      • Other paralegal associations, regardless of geographical location.

Exception Membership (Non Voting) ($25.00 per year):

  • A person is eligible to be an exception member of the APA if he/she is retired from the paralegal profession.

Honorary Membership (Non Voting) ($0.00 per year):

  • A person is eligible to be an honorary member of the APA if he/she served on the APA Board of Directors for a minimum of 10 years and is retired from the paralegal profession.


MEMBERSHIP TERM:

PLEASE NOTE:  The term for membership is from January to December each year.  Members joining in December will receive membership that extends to the end of the following year.  (We currently do not offer one-year memberships from date of joining.) 

IMPORTANT:  You don't need to worry about the time of year you join the APA.  When you become a member, you will have complete online access to all of our past issues of The eDigest (our monthly newsletter), recorded webinars, webinar handouts, job bank, mentoring program, access to our members directory, and you can still use your free APA webinar coupon until the end of the year.  We hope you will consider joining us.
